Vijayawada: The AP State Police Officers Association has appealed to the State Election Commissioner (SEC) Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar not to put the lives of people and the police in danger by insisting on conducting elections to the local bodies.

Narreddi Chandrasekhar Reddy, honorary president of the Association, said here on Sunday that the efforts of the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister to successfully contain the spread of the coronavirus might be wasted due to the undue decision of the SEC to conduct elections.

The police personnel were taken aback following the sudden announcement of the election schedule. He recalled that already 109 police personnel succumbed to the coronavirus while saving people and 14,000 had tested positive to the pandemic and recovered. Even now there are some police personnel who tested positive.

Moreover, the police have the ominous responsibility of arranging security for the vaccination to a larger number of people, transporting, storage and distribution of the vaccine. And the foremost problem is the vaccination to all the police staff. Without undergoing vaccination it would be harmful to the police and the people also, he pointed out.

In this backdrop, it would not be possible for the police to take part in the election duty putting in danger the lives of our family members too, he said.
