Kakinada: Jana Sena chief K Pawan Kalyan demanded that Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy keep his promise of not allowing the setting up of Divis pharma unit at Kothapakalu village in Thondangi mandal of East Godavari district.

Pawan recalled that Jagan had earlier as an Opposition leader vowed to prevent establishing the unit in the district.

Addressing a public meeting at Kothapakalu village on Saturday, Pawan wondered why Jagan after becoming the Chief Minister went back on his promise. He demanded that the government should prove that the establishment of the Divis Pharma wouldn’t jeopardize the health and livelihood of the people around the company.

Stating that he was not against the establishment of the unit, he however said a panel needs to be set up to make a comprehensive study regarding the impact of pollution that could be caused due to the industry.

Pawan expressed concern over thousands of fishermen losing their livelihood if the government gave its nod to Divis Pharma. He said that initially Divis Pharma management required only 489 acres of land, but later changed their stand and wanted 689 acres after Jagan Reddy assumed charge as the Chief Minister. Pawan said the Jana Sena would not support establishing industries which pose health hazards to local people. He assured full support to the people who are agitating against the establishment of the pharma company. He pointed out that many people agitated and fought on behalf of the fisherman community but unfortunately cases were foisted against them. As many as 36 people were jailed and they were languishing in the prisons for want of justice to them. He demanded that the government immediately release them from the prisons.
