Sky News political reporter Trudy McIntosh says the prime minister’s agreement to label Greater Brisbane a hotspot after just one confirmed case was due to the “growing threat” posed by the mutant strain of COVID-19. “The prime minister was very clear as he emerged from National Cabinet that even though it didn’t meet the old definition, the change in the mutation of this virus meant he is right on board to declare Greater Brisbane a hotspot,” she told Sky News host Chris Smith. Ms McIntosh also because “there are so many unknowns with the UK strain” it left Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk with nothing to do but lock down. “The real fear here was the growing threat posed by the mutant strain of COVID-19.”
