New SAMHS SCWO Mzolisi Miselo.

Senior Chief Warrant Officer (SCWO) Mzolisi Miselo is the new man at the helm of the SA Military Health Service (SAMHS) in all its healthcare efforts including the ongoing battle to get on top of the COVID-19 pandemic.

His appointment from 1 January follows the untimely death of SCWO Virginia Sebone who died in September following a short illness.

Miselo is the fourth SCWO of the military health service of the SA National Defence Force (SANDF).

Fifty-six-year-old Miselo joined the national defence force in 1994 and, according to a piece prepared for SA Soldier, started his military career at Area Military Health Unit Gauteng (AMHU GP) as a non-commissioned officer. He was transferred to Northern Cape’s AMHU in 2009 and served for two years between 2011 and 2013 as acting Master Warrant Officer (MWO) at SAMHS Headquarters Unit.

Following this deployment, he made MWO and took up a post at 1 Military Hospital in Thaba Tshwane. 2017 saw Miselo attain CWO rank at Tertiary Military Health Formation where he remained until his January 2021 promotion to SCWO of SAMHS.

Surgeon General of the SANDF, Lieutenant General Zola Dabula, congratulated Miselo on his appointment. “You need to look after the Warrant Officers (WOs) and Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs) you are leading”, he said when he bestowed the newly appointed Warrant Officer with the highest rank within the Warrant Officers rank levels in the South African Military Health Service.

“Commanders move with Warrant Officers wherever they go, therefore you are going to be my second hand”, he said.

Miselo pledged to continue serving  with honour, dignity and pride as a soldier and a volunteer. “I need to restore and intensify military discipline and reassure leadership among NCOs”, he said. “I will make sure the careers and well-being of Warrant Officers and NCOs are taken care of”.
