SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique – The municipality of Libertad in Antique is looking at more efficient delivery of public services with the development of its Management Information System (MIS).

Mayor Mary Jean Te said in an interview Friday that they started to set up their MIS last year and won the 2020 Digitalization Governance Award conferred by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

Te said they started to develop their official website that could provide easy access to information about their municipality.

“We have the socio-economic profiling system and other information about our town that could be easily accessed on the website,” she said.

She added that through the easy access to information, their transactions have become more transparent and could even boost their income.

Te said their fifth class municipality located in the northern tip of the province was able to provide updated information, including situations during typhoons through the ICT system.

Meanwhile, the Digitalization Governance Award, which is an annual search of the DILG, is intended to recognize the best practices in utilizing information and communications technology (ICT) in the delivery of public services.

“Although our municipality is only small and poor, we are still able to receive the award because of the innovative leadership that did not stop us from dreaming big,” she said.

The LGU won second place at the national level as Best in LGU Empowerment (G2G) Award for the municipal category, next to Guagua, Pampanga.

The awarding was held via the Zoom platform on Dec. 13, 2020.

The provincial government through the Provincial Board also recognized the effort of their municipal government.

In its resolution for commendation passed on Thursday, it said that “the digital innovations implemented by the municipality of Libertad proved that technology could be utilized as an effective tool in the delivery of basic social services”. (PNA)
