Queensland’s Health Minister Yvette D’Ath says the lockdown measures for Greater Brisbane are “the best measures” to control the spread of the virus after one person tested positive to the highly contagious UK strain. It comes as residents from the local council areas of Brisbane, Logan, Ipswich, Moreton and Redlands are required to stay home until 6pm Monday night in bid to stem the spread of the virus. “You can’t afford to wait because once you have that transmission it is going to be very, very, hard to get it under control,” she told Sky News host Chris Smith. Ms D’Ath also said the previous measures put in place were “not adequate” to deal with the UK variant of COVID-19 and the hard lockdowns in place could “make a huge difference”. “We believe these are the best measures to try to control this virus, how successful we will be, time will tell.”
