Thiruvananthapuram: Postal voting facility will be granted for three sections of voters in the Assembly election in Kerala.
Postal voting facility will be granted for Covid-19 patients, differently abled and those above the age of 80. The Chief election officer has directed the health department to create an action plan in this regard.
The Central Election Commission has issued a directive to chief election officer Teeka Ram Meena in this regard. Covid-19 patients, differently abled and those above the age of 80 will be allowed to exercise their franchise in the final hour of voting.
Teeka Ram Meena held discussions with Health Department officials over conducting the polls adhering to the Covid-19 protocol. The Health Department will create an action plan in this regard within one week.
Once the notification is out, those who want to avail the postal voting facility should send an application to the returning officer. Health nodal officers will be appointed from state level to booth level in view of the pandemic.
In view of the pandemic, the Health Department needs to purchase safety gear and protective equipment including masks, sanitiser, PPE kits etc from the Medical Service Corporation. The EC will pay for the expenses incurred by the Health Department in this regard.
