WILLEMSTAD – Employees who earn the minimum wage will receive compensation so that they do not lose their purchasing power.

A committee consisting of members of the Ministry of Social Development, Labor and Welfare (SOAW), Social Economic Council (SER) and Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) will set out a policy for this. The compensation is in response to the decision of SOAW minister Hensley Koeiman, who previously announced not to increase the minimum wage. This remains at an hourly wage of 9.62 guilders.

This has been decided in order to keep as many people at work as possible in this way.

How and when the minimum wages can be compensated for their loss of purchasing power is now being investigated by the committee.
