Thiruvananthapuram: Health Minister KK Shailaja stated that Kerala is all set to start the COVID-19 vaccination soon. She was talking in the Wake-Up Kerala programme on Mathrubhumi News channel.
“Once Kerala receives the vaccine, it will be administered to the public soon. Preparation of priority list of people who will get the vaccine, storage, volunteers for distribution and training for them are already completed, informed the minister.
The central government and ICMR have set some guidelines and procedures for the vaccination drive. Priority will be given to health care workers, aged people, lifestyle disease patients and those who are prone to infections in the initial stage.
“Kerala has the highest population density. The population of aged and people with lifestyle diseases is also high in the state. Considering all this, the government has requested the Centre to supply a good number of vaccines to Kerala, added the minister.
The Health Department has issued strict guidelines related to the reopening of schools. The Health Minister alerted that these guidelines should be followed strictly.
